HISTORIC PROVENANCE
The Hurricane Vitruvian is inspired by a French candlestand (ca. 1770), or flambeau de jardin, with a shade at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. One of a pair, the original is crafted from gilt bronze and bears a glass shade for practical protection from drafts. The Vitruvian scrolls—an architectural wave pattern —and the laurel leaf swag—a type of garland—were popular in Neoclassical design, which was fashionable during the period of Louis XVI. Our elegant hurricane reproduction has been beautifully crafted in a vintage brass finish and clear glass.
